Manager - Operational Excellence duties:

  • Directs Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma deployment and projects at HEC for rapid-change transformation and continuous improvement.
  • Directs and manages Lean experts and Six Sigma Black Belts.
  • Develops and deploys the strategy and plan for achieving operational excellence at HEC - Flora.
  • Conducts regular operational excellence roadmap reviews.
  • Budgets and controls all operational excellence roadmap activities.
  • Implements the Hella Production System and controls compliance of HEC processes.
  • Conducts HelPS workshops to support continuous improvement activities.
  • Initiates change process and change management based on HelPS principles.
  • Establishes and supports HEC internal network of specialists.
  • Supports global HelPS network and process specialist network.
  • Manages GE-FIT project activities in the production areas.
  • Achieve annual verified savings of $1.5 million for the department.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in performing job duties and responsibilities.
  • Must complete the required training for the position (see Training Plan for Operational Excellence).

Lean Manufacturing Engineering duties:

  • Directs assigned Lean Manufacturing projects to achieve targeted savings.
  • Leads cross-functional Lean Manufacturing Project Team on assigned projects.
  • Leads/trains project team members on utilization of Lean Manufacturing tools.
  • Mentors Lean Manufacturing Engineer candidates on Lean tools, analysis, and project strategy.
  • Prepares and presents status of assigned projects.
  • Achieve annual verified savings of $200,000.


  • Five (5) or more years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably automotive with sensors and/or electronic products), effectively leading a plant team in quality, cost control and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • BS degree in Engineering or related technical discipline; MSE or MBA preferred.
  • Knowledge in lean manufacturing and process engineering.  Prefer Lean Expert Certification with two (2) years deployment experience.
  • Knowledge in Six Sigma/Shainin.  Prefer Black Belt and/or Shainin Master with two (2) years project experience.
  • Management experience with technical experts and project management required.
  • Experience with electronics, relay, or sensor assembly processes is preferred.
  • Must have global automotive market, customer and competitive business understanding.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
