Overview

Responsible for managing all technical aspects of development of Rear Combination Lamps (Exterior Lighting) including customer interface, the overall design process, verification of requirements, 3D CAD design, 2D drawing generation, and DFMEA to guarantee the expected cost, quality and timing targets for the technical topics. In addition to providing leadership and oversight in the project topics, the Head of System Development and Design is responsible for the leadership and administrative topics for his team. Complete cooperation with the Program/Project Management team for RCLs is expected, as well as interfacing with Marketing & Sales regards new business opportunities and the complete support of RCL acquisition activity.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Development Oversight – Ensure the compliance of the teams to the development processes; delegation (tasks and responsibility) of the development tasks to the System Development team members; organising cooperation with support teams (Electronics, Simulations, Prototypes) involved in the development and launch process, development partners, (customers, suppliers, cooperation partners); introduction of new and optimization of existing methods/processes to ensure the quality, cost and timing targets are met to develop and launch competitive products

     

  2. Personnel Leadership – Establishing employee objectives/targets, evaluation of competencies and the coordination of training through corporate systems. Performance evaluation, employee feedback sessions and mentoring for current and future project assignments to ensure the personnel continue to grow during their careers.

     

  3. Capacity planning - Planning of technical resources corresponding to expected development assignments in HCCU. Ensure the effective and efficiency of the System Development teams and supporting departments (Electronics, Simulation, Optics) in regional and global teams (as the projects require)

     

  4. Product / Market strategy -  Involvement in the development of RCL product and market strategies with PJM and Sales in order to secure and extend market shares in conjunction/alignment with functional  and admininstrative managers.

     

  5. Acquisition / Presentation – Provide Leadership for the HCCU RCL Technical team for quotation and technical presentation of projects in the acquisition phase. Nomination and support of the technical quote team in the technical presentation of proposed products to regional and global customers/suppliers as required.

     

  6. Cost Responsibility – Responsible for the financial operation and KPI fulfilment of the System Development cost center. Budgeting, tracking the employee utilization, and ensuring the project budgets are in line with expected development costs based on product complexity and customer factors in full cooperation with RCL Progam Management..

     

  7. Customer Relationship – Work with Sales, Marketing, and Program Management to improve existing customer relationships and initiate/develop new contacts/relationships with prospective customer. Lead Technical teams with regards to the customer requirements to process and review details for currentprojects and those in the acquisition phase in DOORs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years product development engineering experience with a minumum of five (5) years in a supervisory role
  • BSEE or ME;  MS degree in Engineering, Management or Business preferred
  • Hands-on experience in concept through production development of automotive component(s) including plastics design and electronics development
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability and desire to work in a highly culturally diverse environment with colleagues through Europe, Mexico, and China
